Each Youth Tour participant has the opportunity to be selected as the one person to represent their state on NRECA’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC).
These 44 young leaders will meet virtually once a month from September until February (official meeting times will be communicated to participants).
Between September and February, YLC’sters will:
- Work with their local, sponsoring electric cooperatives to complete creative and engaging October Co-op Month projects in their communities.
- Learn about youth advocacy and the importance of voting from industry leaders and program alums.
- Gain a robust understanding of the cooperative business model.
- Write, prepare, and deliver a 5-7 minute speech for their local, sponsoring electric co-op’s board of directors. These speeches are to be recorded and submitted to NRECA by January, 2025. From these submissions, our 2025 YLC National Spokesperson will be chosen!
- Plan to speak at their statewide association’s and local, sponsoring electric co-op’s annual meetings.
- Write and/or be interviewed for articles featured in their local sponsoring co-op, statewide, and national magazines and newsletters.
- Meet and get to know young, incredible leaders from all over the country!
NRECA’s Youth Leadership Council is a networking opportunity carefully curated to build leadership and public speaking skills and enhance the delegates’ knowledge of the energy industry and the cooperative business model.
NRECA’s Power Xchange & Tech Advantage / Annual Meeting
From March 7-12, 2025, YLC delegates will get to take an all-expense-paid trip to Atlanta, GA for NRECA’s annual Power Xchange & Tech Advantage meeting!
Delegates will be recognized from the stage during the General Sessions and they have hands-on experience with virtually every facet of the meeting, including the resolutions process and helping our members communicate with their legislators.
They will also hear inspiring keynote speakers, attend cutting-edge breakout sessions, and explore Atlanta with their peers!
We want our Youth Leadership Council members to leave our program better developed leaders with a stronger determination to improve their communities and make their country a better place.
Please contact NRECA’s Youth Programs & Training Manager Beth Knudson with any questions.
