ARLINGTON, Va. —National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) CEO Jim Matheson today issued the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Rep. Ryan Zinke to serve as Interior Secretary:
“We know Ryan Zinke well and congratulate him on his confirmation. We look forward to working with Secretary Zinke to protect our natural resources while allowing co-ops to continue empowering their 42 million consumers.”
Many of the regulatory issues that fall under the Interior Department’s jurisdiction impact electric cooperatives. This includes regulations governing land-use activities, rights-of-way, and Endangered Species Act rules administered by the Department’s Fish and Wildlife Service.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, which provide service to 42 million people in 47 states.
