A group of Florida electric cooperative linemen drove 14 hours to demonstrate the sixth cooperative principle: cooperation among cooperatives. In this case, a crew from Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative in DeFuniak Springs lent a helping hand to Glades Electric Cooperative , which lost service to almost all of its 16,000 meters. The linemen have been working on Hurricane Irma recovery daily from 4:30 a.m. until dark, replacing about 20 downed or broken poles per day. Four days into the restoration, about 20 percent of Glades’ members were back online.
