ARLINGTON, Va. – The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) today named Hill Thomas as the association’s Vice President of Legislative Affairs.
In his role leading NRECA’s team of lobbyists, Thomas will help shape the association’s legislative priorities and congressional engagement strategy that align with electric cooperatives’ business and policy objectives.
“Hill brings exemplary experience to this role and will play a key role in crafting an effective legislative strategy for electric cooperative priorities on Capitol Hill,” said NRECA CEO Jim Matheson. “In his five years with NRECA, he has established a proven record as an advocate for electric co-ops. This, plus his experience on Capitol Hill, positions him well to lead our advocacy efforts.”
Prior to being named vice president, Thomas served as NRECA’s legislative affairs director. Before joining NRECA, he served on the congressional staffs for Reps. John Barrow and Gwen Graham.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national trade association representing nearly 900 local electric cooperatives. From growing suburbs to remote farming communities, electric co-ops serve as engines of economic development for 42 million Americans across 56 percent of the nation’s landscape. As local businesses built by the consumers they serve, electric cooperatives have meaningful ties to rural America and invest $12 billion annually in their communities.
