Access to health care in many of the country’s rural areas is diminishing. In towns where incomes and populations are in decline, local hospitals and clinics are closing at an alarming rate, and doctors are leaving or opting to settle elsewhere.
But electric cooperatives are using their connections and their mission of concern for community to reverse this trend. In this episode of Along Those Lines, you’ll hear from three co-op leaders who are managing programs in their areas to get critical care to members of their communities: David Lambert, manager of member relations at Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative in Florida; Shawn Taylor, executive director of the Wyoming Rural Electric Association; and Geoff Oldfather, manager of cooperative communications and public relations for Arizona G&T Cooperatives.
