Kelly Cushman Joins NRECA as Vice President, Political Programs

ARLINGTON, Va. – Kelly Cushman has been named Vice President of Political Programs at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Cushman will lead the organization’s political and grassroots advocacy efforts in support of NRECA’s nearly 900 electric cooperative members nationwide.

“Kelly brings outstanding experience to NRECA and will play a key role in crafting an effective advocacy strategy to support electric cooperative priorities in Washington,” said NRECA CEO Jim Matheson. “She will be a tremendous asset as we work together to further build the advocacy tools to pursue policies that help keep the lights on at a cost American families and businesses can afford.”

Cushman will start with NRECA on October 9. She most recently served as the vice president of Domestic Policy for the National Pork Producers Council. She previously served at the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and in the White House during the George W. Bush administration.

“I’m excited to join NRECA and work with America’s electric cooperatives as they power and empower rural communities across the nation,” Cushman said. “NRECA’s talented team is widely respected throughout Washington, and I’m honored to have this opportunity.”

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national trade association representing nearly 900 local electric cooperatives. From growing suburbs to remote farming communities, electric co-ops serve as engines of economic development for 42 million Americans across 56 percent of the nation’s landscape. As local businesses built by the consumers they serve, electric cooperatives have meaningful ties to rural America and invest $12 billion annually in their communities.
